Update: How to pledge money on Science Starter

6/4/2014

BRINCC is attempting to fund an Eaglewood Reforestation program through the crowd-funding website science starter. Eaglewood (locally called Gaharu) is a valuable commodity for local people in the region and is the single largest source of income for the communities. Unfortunately, it is also an endangered species. As more and more Gaharu gets extracted (combined with habitat loss) it becomes more and more scarce - threatening not only the species but the livelihoods of local people. BRINCC's reforestation program will create a community led reforestation program helping to protect the species and provide a sustainable source of income and employment for local people.

Unfortunately, the Science Starter webpage is in German so for non-german speakers Andrea has kindly given us some instructions.

  1. If you go on the website: http://www.sciencestarter.de/immer-der-nase-nach there is an orange button on the right side: "Projekt jetzt unterstützen"
  2.  If you press it, it says you have to choose a "Dankeschön" (=gift) or donate freely without any gift. So please choose a Dankeschön or if you want to donate for all staff of Kokosnuss you could donate free and just send me the names and I put them on sciencestarter :) Here the choices of gifts:
    • 5 Euro: Wall of Fame
    • 15 Euro: a postcard from the fieldstudy
    • 25 Euro: a self-made small present
    • 50 Euro: We will plant a tree for you and you will receive a certificate with picture
    • 100 Euro: your name in the acknowledgement of the project report and the right to use a forest picture
    • Then I have more stuffs, like rights on using forest pictures, videos, a present from the villages, etc. Anyway, you do not have to donate so much, just what you want and you can choose any gift you want :) Plus come on the wall of fame of sciencestarter.
Steps in case you choose a gift/ or free donation:

  • you have to tick the box in front of the gift you choose
  • click the orange button above the list of gifts "Projekt jetzt unterstützen"
  • There will 2 fields pop up:
  • "Überprüfe Deine Auswahl" means you should check what you chose (see picture 2 in attachment)
    •  so take care, there is a bar where you can choose the amount which goes to the website, not to me, if you don't want to give them money than pull the bar down to 0 Euro.
  • Field: "Anmelden" = register
    • Please choose: "Ich bin neu hier und möchte als Gast unterstützen" = (I am new here and want to support as guest) The other one is, if you are already registered.
    • Then you have to fill in Vorname= given name, "Nachname" = family name, Emailadresse= email address
    • Depending on the gift you chose you might be asked to fill in your address, so that I can send it (Firmenname: company name, Vorname: given name, Nachname: family name, Starße/ Hausnummer: street name/ house number, PLZ: postcode, Ort: City, Land: country
    • "Zahlungsmethode wählen:"choose method of payment"
      • Sofortüberweisung: Transfer directly with a secure connection via online banking account, no registration needed)
      • Paypal (I guess you know it?)
    • Point 5 gives you the space to leave a comment on my wall
    • Point 6 asks if you want to donate anonymously or if you want to transfer your gift to someone else
    • Summary of the donation
    • Then you have to tick you accept sciencestarters AGB
    • and then "jetzt zahlungspflichtig unterstützen"= you commit to the payment
